Interview with Ashley from Posh Plate

My Vitamix. It’s my baby and I talk to her :). I tell her things like ‘you are so talented at what you do,’ do you know what you mean to me?’ and ‘baby you can turn metal bolts into a powder.’ Love her! And yes, she is a girl.

Tell us about yourself!

Hi, I’m Ashley, I am currently a heater–hugging Wisconsin resident, who is excited to move to sunny Dallas Texas summer of 2019, Yeah!! I am a mother of twin girls, I am married to a Turk, and I’ m the HouseHold CEO, Family Law Enforcer, Doll Doctor, and yeah… I like to joke around a lot… It’s nice to meet you.

Share your approach to food with us: what do you like to cook? Why?

My approach to food consists of whole foods with a halal twist. The term Halal simply means permissible in Arabic, it’s an Islamic practice. There are many dynamics to following a halal diet–it is similar to Kosher foods, but it has a set of standards different enough to have its own lifestyle. Because of this religious standard,  you will never see certain ingredients in my dishes like pork, alcohol, vanilla extract (which contains alcohol), and animals that have been machine-slaughter. With that being said, I try my best to create dishes with minimal ingredients from a Mediterranean base or a healthier version of classic American dishes we all crave.

Describe your food personality in 5-7 words

Create delicious food through perseverance.

What are your favorite recipes? Why? Tell us about them!

Frozen Yogurt Berry Bars

They require nothing more than bowl to make, and is a healthier alternative to high sugar ice cream bars. Recipe here.

Poached Eggs over Garlicky Yogurt

It’s a unique breakfast dish and that cannot be found at any restaurant. It contains a fluffy egg over a bed of warm garlicky yogurt–then drizzled with a hot chili butter sauce–I’ m salivating. Recipe here.

“Salad Bar Olives”

I am a huge fan of buying those over-priced olives at the grocery store, but man, they are expensive! What I did was combine Turkish flavors with Italian flavors and viola, a cheaper–tastier olive is born.  Recipe here.

What’s your favorite thing about Want the Recipe?

What I like about Want the Recipe is how they reach food bloggers with many different backgrounds and dynamics. I always say diversity is the secret weapon for understanding our complex world.

What food can you not live without?

Cheese, it is so versatile. There is hard cheese, soft cheese, salty cheese, and sweet cheese. I can create so many different recipes with all the different cheese options, it’s so friggin tasty.

What kitchen appliance do you swear by?

My Vitamix. It’s my baby and I talk to her :). I tell her things like ‘you are so talented at what you do,’ do you know what you mean to me?’ and ‘baby you can turn metal bolts into a powder.’ Love her! And yes, she is a girl.
