Interview with Selena from The Nutritious Kitchen

Tell us about yourself! What’s your name, where do you live, where do you work?

Hello hello! I’m Selena, founder and owner of The Nutritious Kitchen where I bridge together down to earth living with science based nutrition, create wholesome recipes & inspire through pillars of wellness!

I’m currently living in Boston completing my Dietetic Internship at MGH and will be moving to Chicago this September! There I will take the RD exam and make things official as a dietitian.

I love staying active through endurance training & fitness, outdoor adventures, reading by the river, deep chats with best friends over lattes and of course letting my creativity run wild in the kitchen!

Share your approach to food with us: what do you like to cook? Why?

I love creating wholesome recipes made from REAL foods and ingredients meant to fuel the body and feed the soul. It’s less about deprivation and more about abundance and nourishment through nutrient dense foods that will make us feel our best selves, improve digestion and boost energy & mood!

Most of my friends and family know me for my healthy baked goods because I have a mega sweet tooth and don’t believe in deprivation. I love putting a healthy spin on desserts and treats to fuel workouts through less processed ingredients like almond flour, sprouted grains, flax, nut butters, maple syrup, coconut oil… just to name a few!

What are your 3-5 favorite recipes? Why? Tell us about them!

Maple Tahini Rice Krispie Treats: Simple ingredients, no bake and full of fiber! I love these for a post workout treat or midday energy boost.

What’s your favorite thing about Want the Recipe?

I love the simplistic concept of having all your favorite recipes organized and stored in one place! It can make cooking so much easier with just opening up the app and hopping over the recipe!

What food can you not live without?

Dark chocolate fudgy peanut butter of any variety, tahini and hummus! Oh and fish tacos. Okay I’ll stop there:)

What kitchen appliance do you swear by?

Any sort of blender! Nutribullet, Vitamix…whatever floats your boat but this tool is such an essential and makes smoothies, soups, juices, grounded up flours/nuts, chopped veggies, dough…the list goes on with all the things you can do!

Be your own health advocate and focus more on what’s sustainable and nourishing for YOU versus the latest diet trend.

Do what feels best for your body and tune out the noise of everyone else!

Be open to new ideas and inspiration but allow yourself to discover what foods, workouts and wellness practices your body craves & loves

Do you have a favorite kitchen hack/ trick?

Coconut Aminos will add flavor to ANY DISH! I’m all about core, staple ingredients that can be versatile 🙂
