Tell us about yourself!

I’m Marlo Giudic and I live in San Francisco with my husband and baby girl, Lu. I am the CEO & Founder of Marlo’s Bakeshop

Share your approach to food with us: what do you like to cook? Why?

I think it’s all about BALANCE! I live the 80/20 rule and eat that way too: healthful, wholesome fruits, veggies, lean meats, fish & full-fat dairy about 80% of the time and 20% of the time I indulge in sugar, ice cream, wine, wine, bourbon & wine!

Describe your food personality in 5-7 words

Balanced. Healthy-ish. Love greens. Love cookies.

What are your favorite recipes? Why? Tell us about them!

Lasagna Soup from Closet Kitchen

Pretty sure this is why my husband proposed to me. His ultimate meal. Pair with a salad and a nice bottle of red and you’re done! We like to use leaner boar sausage here and I add a ton of fresh spinach at the end to make this a bit more healthful. Recipe here.

The Great Unshrinkable Sweet Tart Shell from Smitten Kitchen

This is a go-to from Dorie Greenspan whom I adore, and it really works, it doesn’t shrink. I fill this with sweet fillings but also will remove or reduce the sugar for savory tarts as well. Any recipe that allows you to not use some wonky kitchen tool i.e. pie weights I am all for. Recipe here.

Apple Weekend Cake from The Pudge Factor

Another Dorie Greenspan recipe for apple weekend cake. I found this in her paris kitchen cookbook but I guess this online blog highlights it as well. Use any apples you have. I dare you to try and see if it survives the whole weekend. Comforting. Delicious. Not too sweet. As perfect with coffee in the morning as it is with tea in the afternoon and port after dinner. Recipe here.

What’s your favorite thing about Want the Recipe?

How you’re exposing people to tons of great, unique recipes & the people behind them! Food is so personal and it’s important we learn more about what we eat and nourish our bodies with. Also, there are amazing people doing incredible things with food and it’s exciting to see these folks celebrated and highlighted.

What food can you not live without?

Peanut butter and soft-baked biscotti. Sometimes together, sometimes not.

What kitchen appliance do you swear by?

Hmm…I use our blender on a daily basis to make smoothies but for sophisticated cooking and baking I’d say our food processor.

What are your favorite blogs/ Instagram accounts that you follow? What do you like about them?

@SmittenKitchen of course!

Do you have any advice for our food community?

Try everything! Taste, talk, and learn. It creates empathy and today that’s one of the most important elements for humanity’s {hopefully peaceful} coexistence…
